HROA Summer Rally

Lovely start to the season heading down to the West Country through the 'Race' and across a benign Lyme Bay in company

Gathering In Weymouth and Portland, the HROA Summer Rally got off to a fine a start with glorious sunshine, though not much wind and a lot of motoring! Heading off about midday after an excellent supper the night before ashore in Portland Marina, boats took the inner passage around the notorious Portland Bill in flat calm conditions, with a photographer from the National Coastwatch Institution photographing the fleet as they went past! Three nights in Brixham including a tour of the fish market, then led to an early departure for Dartmouth to visit Britannia Royal Naval College, and walks along the beautiful Dart, some opting for the steam train back to Darthaven Marina. The Royal Dart YC hosted us for our main rally dinner, despite unfortunate flooding from a mains pipe taking out their bar, damaging the galley, as supper had to be cooked without any ovens. The rally finished on the visitors' pontoon on the Yealm with one of the HROA celebrated pontoon parties, and one of the best YC dinners many members could recall ever enjoying at the Yealm Yacht Club.
