We are thinking of upgrading our yr 2000 HR42 for a HR53 in 3/4 years time and would like to hear from any current 53 owner who may be able to give advice on specification "must have" items /modifications etc.
Is the design in need of modernisation ? or is it perfect as it is?
Having recently taken on a 42 only to hear of its replacement with a 43 , we would like to know if existing 53 owners think that this should also happen to the 53.

HR seems to be engaged in a pattern of switching over to plywood interiors. You will note that both the HR 43 and now the 40 have done that. Its obviously cheaper to cut panels on a computer guided saw table. I can't say I like the look of it, though. Both boats got something of a hull redesign, broader aft section allowing for more room in the master cabin. So if changes are coming to the 53 I think the direction is clear. Depends on what you like.
In corresponding with some 53 owners, I ran into one couple who have the alley galley, which I do like. They noted the counters were somewhat lower than they expected, and were a bit disappointed because they are on the tall side. So you might check that out for yourself.
The dealer in Seattle told me the new removable bowsprit arrangement should be available on all models at some point. Right now you can see it in the HR 43 photos on their website.
