Can someone please advise as to the best method to rig a preventer on the main of an HR36?

Hi Jay,

I have a 39 and am planning to install a boom brake instead of a preventer. If you haven't looked into this alternative you may be interested. I add the URL next.

I see you were thinking about your gybe preventer back in June. Which way did you go?
I have always used a rope from the boom end to the bow cleat & then to the beam or stern cleat for adjustment & this has always worked well.
However, just recently in a channel crossing I used this method from the beam cleat to the boom end, thinking I,d be saving myself having to go too far forward to set it up in what was quite a rough sea. In a accidental gybe the rope gave and we were lucky not to suffer any damage in what was a slow motion gybe.
Discussing this with a more experienced skipper than myself it appears that the rope from the bow is much stronger, because of the angle of the preventer, than the one from the beam.
Anyway the lesson learned was that if you can do without the main do so - I also learnt on the same journey that the HR36 loves too run with two foresails even of odd sizes and takes away any fears of gybing.
