Next year, I will replace the cutlass bearing. The boat is out of the water at the moment and I have had a good measure around to try and come up with a removal technique. As far as I can see, it is not possible to drift the bearing out from the engine room. The bronze fitting which the bearing sits in does not look as if it can be removed either. So, perhaps the bearing has to pull out from the propellor end. HR parts said that I should remove two retaining grub screws and the "using a bit of bent wire, insert it from the propellor end, and pull out the bearing with some difficulty". Has anyone any experience of this operation ?
