We are purchasing a 46 in May 2004. Does anyone please have information on which is the better choice, Brunton's Autoprop or Gori? Since ordering we have heard adverse comments about the Gori. We would be most grateful for feedback and advice about this.

I purchased a 1997 46 in June this year. It had a J prop which the prev. owner said was very good but because it was not maintained well with annual greasing it has suffered premature wear and has had to be sent back to Italy for overhaul.

The Seven Seas Cruising Association (serious long distance cruisers) does a periodic user survey of their member's sailing equipment. I was impressed that the MaxProp had a near perfect score from the membership. That coupled with the reputation Maxis have for after sale support influenced me to have one installed on my, then new, HR-39. Now 3 seasons later, I do not regret the decision one bit -- minimal drag, great power in reverse and flawless operation. Unfortunately not all of my East Coast US acquaintances are as enthusiastic about their choice of Gori - the "overdrive" feature simply overloads the Volvo and realistically is minimally useful, support for repair/replacement can take months (in the US at any rate). HR seems to "encourage" Gori selection without any substantiation that seems very compelling.
